Disheartened by My Visit Today

I went to this Gurudwara today and was kindly asked if I wanted tea, to which I said yes. One of the staff members (probably a senior) asked me to wash my hands before having chai since I had just finished lunch. I went to the sink area and started washing my hands, but he shouted at me from behind, in front of everyone, saying I should wash my hands outside at the three-basin area, not in the sink where dishes are washed.

When I asked why, he said, “You impure the water.” I was shocked—how can someone be so rude and disrespectful, and give such an illogical explanation?

Gurudwaras are places of:
• Respect
• Compassion
• Equality
• Seva (selfless service)

Mistakes can happen, especially if:
• There are no signs indicating proper procedure.
• You’re a new visitor or unfamiliar with local customs.

In short:
• It’s okay for them to remind or guide you.
• It is not okay to shout, scold, or make a scene.

I’ve always loved going to Gurudwaras, but after today’s experience, I’m extremely disheartened and will not be visiting this location again.
